Yay, submissions
« on: April 22, 2010, 04:24:51 PM »
This subforum's purpose is solely for submitting stuff for the main site. To do so, simply make a thread and attach what you want to submit to the site. Use the thread to state what category it is, so I don't have to sift through it to determine it myself (that will only make me angry and not want to upload it).

Patch submissions:

Screenshots are encouraged for patches, and I ask that they are included with the patch in a compressed file, 7z or rar preferred. Use only png format for screenshots. If other formats are included, either by ignorance or spite (or any other reason), they will be deleted. Screenshots generally will not be included in the upload, but can be upon request.

A readme should come with the patch, but is not required.

NSFE submissions:

Include the game title, artist, copyright, ripper, and your handle (we need to know who to credit). Songs that don't naturally end should loop twice. Failure to comply will make me angry, and will cause me to seriously think about not uploading the submission.

Once you've figured everything out, use the attach feature at the bottom of the page to finalize the submission, or link to your submission from somewhere else, but no filesharing sites like mediafire, etc or anywhere else that requires javascript to get. Good luck, happy hunting.

hey Leno would it be ok to submit my custom sprite sheets as well?

I mean sure I'll provide a zip file (7z or rar of course) including the character's image, mugshots, bin, and palette files as well

or just leave the 2 former threads I made way back when? :p

I see no reason not to. There's one patch of that type already, so submit away.

There's four patch pages, FF1, FF2, FF5, and FF6. I don't think any of those aren't rom hacks.

Translation: Yes.
5/31/16 - I have an assembly of the battle portion of C2, relocated to the F0 bank, which has both vanilla and patch code in my dropbox. I'll be updating it with additional patches as I have time. I will *not* be releasing it publicly, but ask me for the link and I'll share.

Rar gets far better compression than zip, and 7z gets better compression than rar most of the time, but not always. :cycle:

Yes, but zip files are automatically supported at least in Windows XP (possibly Vista and 7 too) without installing anything. I feel that makes up for the few extra kilobytes.

Not when you're on slow, limited dialup (like me).

Why is 7zip and rar preferred over zip?

I don't have or have ever been able to use 7z, but .rar has nice navigation. Isn't zipped folders just slower?

I use 7z only for really large file sizes like romsets. Rar is good for isos and such, but for anything below 10 MB, I use zip just for its compatibility.

As for navigation; if you have WinRAR installed, it will be associated with zip files by default and should treat them no different from rar files.
