General Discussion / Re: Hooray failing hardware!

Regarding your onboard sound, have you checked to see if that's trigged by jumpers? Usually older comps have more jumper use than BIOS options.
No, it's a yellow block over the three ports. I don't see any jumpers near it.

I know you're probably in a worse financial situation than me but I'd seriously consider just saving up and buying a new computer.
That's pretty much what I have to do.

I'm doing that, except I've got no job so saving takes a long time. That, and I don't really know what's "good" and research only provides people trying to sell me things rather than tell me what and why I would want to.

I can help you with that, once you've gotten the money together.

I have no interest in getting a 360 until the red ring issue is fixed, and it doesn't look like that's going to be happening anytime soon.

Actually, it has been. Since late last year. Any new X360 you buy will be the new fixed version.

General Discussion / Re: anyone else a fan of zophar's rom archive?
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:34:07 AM »
Hmm.

The SNES roms at least are the old Edgeemu archives. These have popped up all over the internet due to how easy it is to rip them off.

The PSX games don't seem to be ripped off, and the Sega CD games seem to be full rips rather than the MP3/ISO crap.

Edit: Looks like most of the rom sets are ripped off of Edgeemu. :(

Still, that means it's basically a complete Good collection.

Code bloat sucks, but some of it is unavoidable no matter what. :(

I don't remember when (except that it was last year or earlier), but SuperSaiyanTien called FFMQ the "first game" in the series.

Well, he wins the ultimate retard award of the day. Even lameasses know FF originated on the NES...

I usually avoid this section of the site but I couldn't resist clicking on The Top 10 Greatest Super Nintendo Games Of All Time. Now, for the most part these are good games and I'd even list most of them as my personal favorites, but there are so many factual errors in here that I just can't take it seriously. Does anyone even moderate these things or do a little basic fact checking before they go up on the main page of the site?

The thing that pisses me off is when they use lists over a year old. Often times because of that, they contain even more inaccuracies than that one has. They also have a tendency to use the same list for two or more days...

I check the lists out of curiosity. They've introduced me to a few games.

I hated that part of SOTN. To this day I want to slap IGA up the head for that, even if he's not responsible as. you see, he's a good target for my useless angst.

I did use up most of the one shot items(Mainly the healing... though I usually only used healing in boss battles.) aside from the potions. I might try that with a 99th level sword familiar equipped just for sheer ATK stat ownage.

As for the subweapons... I confess to not using them much. Is the Dagger as useless as it appears?

THE TRUTH, IT BURNS ME

*Ahem*

FUCK XENOSAGA

The series started out great, wonderful even. Then in XS episode 2, the battle system went to shit. That was OK, though, as I was mainly playing the series for its' plot. Then, XS2 failed and the head writers/creators of the whole Xeno series were fired during the making of XS2/after its' failure. Then, the series was canceled, and the development team was told to finish the series up in one game.

Then, XS3 came out.

Gameplay was very good. Very, very good.

The writing, you ask? How was it, you say?

MOTHERFUCKING TERRIBLE

Shion suddenly becomes The King Of All Assholes, as well as Yet Another Linkin Park Listening Emo/Nu-Metal Moron. The dialog goes out the frigging window, and the plot becomes idiotic as hell(Then again, when you're talentless and forced to take an outline of a 6 game series which had already seen several major edits in the form of stuff being cut from CS1 and 2, you're going to fuck it up no matter what.). At the end of the game, I wanted to personally commit genocide on each and every one of the people who wrote it/contributed to the writing process aside from the two former head writers who had zero input into the game itself.

Edit: Forgot to mention XenoGears!

*Smacks self on forehead.... HARD*

Now that game is completely and totally awesome.

I like Richter's game in theory. The problem is the castle just isn't set up for him. It's set up for Alucard. Richter's skillset is designed for entirely different levels.

Lots of PSU confusion here.

1. your monitor draws power from the wall, not from the PC.

2. a 6200 will draw much less power than a GF FX 5700.

3. Video card companies tend to stick PSU requirments on the box that just aren't true. The reason is most people have SHIT PSUs(This is mainly because of OEMs.), and that a higher wattage PSU used to mean a higher quality PSU(this is no longer true.). a 6200 could run on a 150 watt PSU easy, provided said PSU isn't already loaded to the max.

4. HDs don't draw much power. The only time they use more than a few watts is when you power up the PC. Size of the drive doesn't matter, unless they got to 500 gigs by using 17 platters, which is, well, impossible for several reasons.

5. That PSU will run the extra HDs and video card with ease.

Given you're buying that PC used, I'd take the case off and clean it with a crapload of compressed air and ear swabs. It's probably got a fair bit of dust build up.

Terra. Her special ability (Morph) is much better than Celes's special ability (Run-stupid-ic).

Ha ha! That is so clever!

:picard:

I couldn't even get past the third page, I cannot tolerate GameFAQs-level stupidity anymore.

>.> I agree with that. But then again, I'm an offensive player to the point of not defending myself right(Such as using Runic to basically disable several bosses.). I suuuuuuuuck

Nothing can beat SOTN. It's just the best metroidvania so far.

Though it would be better if it had a collecting stuff that makes you stronger(The DSS cards, souls, etc) system hacked into it. The damn game's too hard until you get stuff like the shield rod and Alucard Shield. Then it becomes broken in ways rarely equaled. :(

Edit: Watched the trailer. Looks pretty good.

given the time frame it takes place in(After SOTN before bloodlines), I wonder if what happens to Alucard and Maria after SOTN will be addressed... I doubt it.
