Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: Spell ASM Finds

It had only occured to me now that monster magic with HP Leak always succeeds.. although Zeromus makes both Bio/Virus and Big Bang work 100% of the time (not Nuke/Flare or Meteor).

No, I really meant RPGOne's translation patch for FF6.

See how the spell menu looks different? The MP box was removed in favor of expanding the spell names in battle.

Got Gogo, met Gau's father and Duncan.  There doesn't seem to be a star shaped mountain, I must be forgetting something important to 'open it up'.  I'll find it, eventually.   :cycle:

Talk to "the emporor" twice.

The drivers for HD2000 series and up cards are fucked up if you're an AGP user. You'll have to install the AGP hotfix drivers(Found on AMD's site), and I don't believe they've been updated in a while.

Are you sure that's a fix? I thought it was a simple registry entry...

The only way of expanding the magic menu in battle is to do what the RPGOne's translation does with the spell list.

You would have to remove the MP Cost Box and move the text around to the top (or bottom) of the list... then you can expand the spells freely (it seems to expand to only 7 characters plus spell sprite).

Technically, you are onto something. It still pisses me off nonetheless that Bomb is gotten way after you already have the Mist Dragon summon.

The Bomb summon isn't fire elemental though, so that does shoot your theory down somewhat.

You would've thought they would've written somewhere for Bombs to deal extra damage to Rydia or something...

You should educate yourself about PSUs. Too many people buy a crappy PSU and accidentally fuck themselves over because of lack of knowledge. Here's a link: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article28-page1.html

Reading it now...

As for the video card's cooling... If you're concerned, here's a model with lower Core clocks but better cooling: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102781

Sounds good.. I think

As for the video card, I can't help it... moar powah!!!!! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102762 - both in raw rendering and fluff.

You haven't mentioned what processor and motherboard, though - processor so we don't recommend anything that's going to suffer from a bottleneck (CPU can't keep up), and motherboard to make sure that recommendations are electrically compatible (does your motherboard support 1.5V AGP cards?).

ASUS K8V-SE Deluxe, Athlon64 3200+ (2GHz, 1MB L2 cache), Win2k, 1GB DDR @ 400MHz

The mobo is for AGP 4x/8x cards, so that's a non-issue.

Fuck Enermax unless you're using one of their high end models.

Damn good PSU. Has everything you need. More than enough power, and more connectors than you need(6 VS 4). I use a lower wattage version of it myself.

Mind you, I'm not entirely educated on PSUs. I did buy an Antec PSU before... it seems to run just fine.

I'm not familiar with Sapphire if it's a quality manufacturer. However, I am concerned about the heat (I'm not looking to pay extra for video card cooling)...

I was starting to freak out since another PSU died... another Enermax. I'm not sure why they don't last long enough...

I was looking for a suggestion for replacing it, I don't need that much... running 2 PATA HDs, 2 PATA CDROMS (DVD-ROM and DVDWriter)... ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (AGP), ATI TV Wonder Pro, SB Live Value (Gateway OEM)...

Also, if my video card hasn't gotten fucked by the slow death of the PSU, I need a recommendation there.. it doesn't matter what exactly, as long as it is on par with what I have, if not better (it doesn't matter if it's ATI or NVidia, as long as it is equal or better than what I have). NVidia 6600GT/my current ATI video card are the baseline.

This spell is unaffected by Mini status... so it may be fair to state that Curse doesn't work either since both are attack power altering statuses.

Where's the point where explaining stuff to pretty much spelling it out is still not understood...?

ah, ok, that works.  i was reading through, and my math sense started tingling. :)

just out of curiosity, where does the game truncate the decimal?  does it knock off the entire decimal, or does it stop at some point a few numbers in? or is that something that we'll just never know?

Think of it in terms of integers as I don't think the SNES had an FPU. When you do division with integers, you end up storing the remainder as part of the operation. That usually is the case AFAIK.

for the bare fists attack power, couldn't(shouldn't?) it be (str + lv)/4 instead of str/4 + lv/4? that makes more sense than dividing 2 things by 4, and it's cleaner.

i just started reading this, and thought i'd make a suggestion.

:edit: same for here:

All Weapons That Don't Involve A Bow:

Base Attack Power = Weapon's Attack Power + Str/4 + Level/4  -- wap + (str + lv)/4

in fact, i see it used a few more times.

That's not how it works. It's not a sum of both values then divided by 4.  It's a sum of each value divided by 4. You also have to factor in truncation, which has a greater significance here. Truncation prevents the standard math principles, particularly the associative property in addition/multiplication.

Well, they did make General Leo a full character(Though it's not known how you'll get his ass back from the dead.).

If that's not sarcasm, you will need to die.

What? Why kill me? I'm not the one who made him playable. Take that up with Leno and Co. http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?topic=112.msg1326#msg1326

Oh right, I'll let you live for 10 more minutes then. Either the character replaces another, or there is actual code changing involved there...

Uh, that link I gave you pretty much said he's a full character as in the game's code was changed. After all, why in the hell would they reveal a "new" playable character and not make him a full character?

Dammit, I can't believe I have to do this.

You're not reading what I wrote. I'm suggesting he could be replacing an existing character, which is easier to do since it is primarily cosmetic.

IIRC, it works, but it is uber slow. It is largely affected by Stamina.

The target with gradual petrification needs to be hit a number of times to accelerate the process...

This was retested after it was mentioned.

 :edit:
In the context of uber slow, I'm talking about needing a battle speed of 1, Active ATB, and lots of fast forwarding in an emu.
