FF5's monster that lurks in the castle where the soldiers tell you about it... it's great when the scan lies to you about the enemy and you get locked into a battle when you do a critical hit.

Iron Giant?

Gaming Discussion / Scariest RPG Monster
« on: December 27, 2007, 04:00:05 PM »
The SORCERER discussion in the FF2usHT walkthrough thread got me thinking about this.  So lets hear it!

I obviously vote for the SORCERER from FF1.  They may only do 4 DMG but with the ability to KILL someone on a regular hit at any time they definately are scary in numbers.  Run into 6 or more of them and you are seriously screwed.

Got I love (and hate) FF1's Sorcerer because it is by far the most feared regular monsters in gaming history.  So I recreated him.  Have fun with that.
Difference being the Sorcerer's only hit for 4 damage at best. The trick to beating them was wearing ProRings (Protect Rings) which have resistance to their instant death attack. If FF4 could do that, it'd be a lot better.

As far as I know, the SORCERER enemy in FF1 didn't have an attack element, just the status bit.  That made it impossible to have a resistance to it (ProRings would protect you from RUB and SQUINT, but not SORCERER hits).

That means EVADE would be your only hope.

Ok, my list is updated minus PC games.  I've also had to submit info for FFXII: Revenant Wings for the DS since I bought it today.  There are a few other games that I need to add.

The 6 Ghost formation is also the rare 1/64 chance battle on a couple of those floors.  Use an Alert to find them.

  ph34r the Ghosts.  They are quite possibly the most annoying regular monster in the game when you get into the battle formation with 6 of them.  Observe one of the pics I use in the FF2usHT section on my main site.

Here are a couple of other things to watch for:

Characters by themselves no.  You need equipment in order to resist elementals.  I'm sure however with some ASM modification you could do this, as god knows there is a ton of room you could use for the code.

Is there some extra bit that tells Meteo to do extra damage?  Or maybe its own elemental properties?

Great.. because I ended up giving Rosa a Whip in the end...

Anyways, is the stat growth fixed Level 70 and onwards or is it character/class specific?

Character specific if memory serves.
