hey, so i found a translation of the ffiv Settei Shiryou Shuu, an ultimania-like book about ffiv.  the website is here, in case anyone hasn't seen it:

ask zzonkmiles or astralesper over at gfaqs.  i'm pretty sure they both either have a patch to fix them or know how to fix them(or astral told zzonk). sliktail might also know..

wait, do espers still teach magic now, but it's invisible? celes has learned a couple spells after battles, that i never knew about.

edit: there's a post at the bottom of the last page also, jce, just in case you don't go back to look. :)
those "unknown" relic items are kinda neat. so far, just terra and celes can equip them. i assume strago and relm will be able to, as well?(maybe) i made sure to steal 4 from the ice rider(?) do they boost magic like earrings(which i hope are still in the game)? or are the earrings around to do that, and the unknown item just boosts stats and is stackable?

:omg:  binford 6100? i used to love that show when i was a kid! i still get to see it on nick at nite on occasion.
so i just took a trip up north of kholingen(sp?) to the guy-who-wants-to-build-the-colisseum's house...
are there still hero rings in this game, but not in the same spots? or did you get rid of them all? all i got in the pot was a "learn remedy" spell-relic.

neat little idea there with the ultimate armor foreshadowing at owzer's  :)
also, does the
lucky ring
ma wke you attack 4 times? i'm trying to pin down why locke is doing it, but i can't seem to decide. it's either that or the agile knife. (i think...)

btw, i LOVE the fact that guy/locke is stealing 4 times per turn now. it's pretty amazing.

last time i edit before . i'm trying to keep my levels low, but it's really difficult, considering how quickly i seem to gain them. i'm not walking around trying to level at all, and my guys are between lv. 18 and 20, and i'm just beginning to walk around zozo.  i've started to run from battles in zozo, so i don't get too strong. aside from the usual esper bonuses later on, is there any real reason to keep them low, jce? because, between the lucky rings i keep winning from the "slut" monsters, and powerful equipment, and the speedy level gains, it's not so much a hardtype as a very much "new' game. also, it seems like quite a few monsters have regen status, which is neat.

aaaaanywho, i looove it anyway.

ok, really the last edit tonight:

that guy at the top of the stairs in zozo...  WOW, what a fight! now that's a high quality piece of hacking! took me 2 tries to beat him, but i had to run through all my x-potions, etc etc.  outside of that, can you explain how espers work now?  i was fooling around with them, but i don't quite get how it works. they don't teach anything anymore?

if you mean sabr and tmpr, I believe they have them working over at the gfaqs ff board. I know I've played through a couple of remakes from there, and I think at least one had those spells working.

ok, so i beat ffiv et and ff3j each for the first time ever(1st time ever playing either actually), and now it's back to this!

edit: loving the new stats for the 1st recruit-able ghost. it's more than just another body to take damage now.

no fenixdown usage? i NEVER stop to fight the phantom train, so this ought to be interesting.
farcen? where did that come from?
i opened this up in ffh and took a look around.  it looks pretty promising, esp the new monsters and classes.  can't wait to give this a shot.

this is up next after jce's awesome ff3us ht.

excellent, thank you.  i had your old one.

edit 7/7/08: well, all the data i have so far is up on the site. i'll keep adding things as they're presented here, and i'll keep editing the site itself to make it "prettier", etc.

bond697.110mb.com

i've gone thr0ugh and grabbed everything i could find in terms of data and general/random facts from all 9 pages worth of threads here.  right now, i have 52 documents: some very specific, some very general, including the towel of bab-il docs and  deathlike's magic guide-if that's a problem, let me know-. i also have  some stuff phoenix has posted, paladin's spreadsheet, entroper's spreadsheet, a pdf, and 2 html pages worth of info, etc etc.  one of those pages is jce's large html doc.  if there's a problem with using it, please let me know.

i want to get all the data up first, then i'm gonna try and give credit to everyone as best i can- which should be do-able, just time consuming.

objections? ideas?

550
thanks, i definitely will, i'd love to make your docs available.  i've been going thread by thread at this point compiling info, and your docs would make a HUGE addition to my stuff. i have pretty much everything else that's available(this includes documents you posted here for me, spreadsheets that entroper and paladin posted, etc etc.)

honestly, it's just gonna be for ff2/4, so i'm gonna make it static, not a dynamic website. 1. because it's for 1 game 2. because i don't know all that much dynamic HTML/xml/javascript, etc :) and 3. because it won't be that big of a project either way.

551

That said, anyone want to dig through every page of the forum and compile all the hacking information into one big document?

that's what i've been doing for ff2/4. i want to sit down and make some serious headway tonight on it.

well, if it's all the same, i think i'm gonna go ahead and make a small site for myself to use, and anyone else who wants to check it out can.  it's not gonna be pretty, just functional.

552
hey, phoenix and deathlike, i was thinking, would it be helpful if there was a website containing all the the data about ff2/4, etc available so far, but in an orderly fashion? i only ask because i know i don't have it all, but i've been compiling stuff from here on a thorough basis, and i have all the docs and utilities and spreadsheets all organized, etc. plus, i've been taking info out of topics on this board and organizing it into text files.

would something like that be useful as a companion to this board? it wouldn't take me long to do, as i already have webspace. i can give you guys(and dkk, jce, paladin, etc) the user/pass, and you could add stuff also. it would be like a "reference book" for ff2/4, but as a website.

edit: and obviously with everyone getting proper credit.

553
thanks for this. i do actually have the tower of babel docs. ever since i've found this place, i've been going through topics archiving any ff2/4/4et/4a data that i can find, so with these 3 text files, i've got quite a bit.

btw, i've been in love with ff2/4 since 91 when it came out (i'm 23 now), so having access to all this data is super-exciting. i've been trying to come up with a good idea for a hack as of late. i have all of this data, and nothing to do with it. :)

edit: i've actually been using zythofar's editor today to look over the battle scripts, now that i realized that you can do that. it's really making things a ton clearer for me. :)

554
so, i finally got to check the place out since very early this morning, and i just wanted to say thank you, phoenix, for taking the time to give me all that instruction in that other topic.  also, i'd love to see the hex data behind this, if you don't mind.  or is this data in those 3 text files that you left for me in the other topic?

555
ok, I'm following you so far. Last question for tonight: how would you know about that table? A hacker having found/ shared it? And then using it, you'd compare the dmg/ speed(agility), etc and the number of turns it takes to advance the octomamm battle?
