Thunder Shield has the best elemental protection of the three shields, and it's absurd how good it is. :omghax:

daaaaamn right!     :cycle:  :cycle:  :yabin:

it's tough to really pick one, because they can be switched out very freely.

if i HAVE to pick one, the thunder shield.  absorbs thunder, 50% flame/ice, nulls wind, no weakness. :)

i never, ever, ever buy guides, but this one is pretty nice and i really liked all the art, so i couldn't help it(plus, it was $13 on amazon :) )

as for the conspiracy theory, i wouldn't doubt it.  :)

for guide, yes, it lists complete stats, 1.5/1/.5 responses to all elements, doom weakness, gil, exp, hp, etc, etc. also, drops, steal, and vulnerable status ailments.

umm.... nope, just checked.

i bought this thing mainly for the art, but here's a pic or 3 of what it looks like so you can see:

yeah, i just checked the guide. mad ogres have an evasion rate of 5. kain has the wind spear, and his accuracy is 80% with it.  ah well.  just thought it was interesting due to its rarity. not(rare) in this version, though, i guess.

since when does kain miss coming down from a jump? i'm getting the sword in eblan, and kain came down on the steel golem and actually missed. i don't think that's ever happened before.

 :edit:

and that was a waste. i thought it would be stronger than the flame sword. ah well.

Imp

Useless summon ever.. it is cheaper than the level 1 elementals for cost vs spell power, but not really amazing by any stretch of the imagination..

This really needs a gimmick to be cool, something like FF5's goblin punch where it does massive damage against enemies that are the same level as the caster.

that would be one place for peep to come in handy.  also, maybe a boss which changing weaknesses?(is that do-able in ff4?) ala magi master in ff6 or that-boss-that-i-can't-remember-the-name-of in ff3, damn it. there's one in ff5, also, right? was it garuda? i need to look that up.

just for clarification, i know about nuke's(and i figured about white's considering nuke's) multi-targeted glitchiness, etc.  they were more theoretical comments than actually easily do-able.

i really wouldn't mind drain being that powerful.  it would turn the battle into an all-out brute force contest.  kill before you're killed.

i do understand how sleep is powered, i should've been clearer. i just think it needs to last longer.

also, with peep, i don't really like how any of the games use the "peep" series of spells.  i know it would break convention, but i don't think that that would be a bad thing.

i didn't know that about hold/sleep.  i've never really stopped to study it, does it last as long as sleep using a constant number set?(i.e. the stats for party and monsters are exactly the same for each spell)

i can see where you're coming from with reflect. the way it is, you need to strategize who you want to give the spell to.  1 multi-target or 2 tiers was wishful thinking.

i'm not gonna comment on the ninja or summon spells, because you've done a really nice job, deathlike.

i just wanted to say that, concerning edge, i really like the way jce powered him up in ff2us ht. would've been nice to see some of that power in the original game.

i really need to start putting some knowledge to use and start putting together an ff2 hack.

well, i'll give my $.02,

lv.1 elements + chocobo

all 4 of these spells have good uses in the early game. really not too much to say.

lv. 2 elements

these are kind of a joke.  like you guys said, i'd rather be using bio, unless i'm hitting a weak+ monster.

lv. 3 elements

these get some use, but again, unless i'm hitting a serious weakness, i'd rather just use quake once it's learned.  like you said, deathlike, these need to be bumped up in power.

piggy

nope, never.

toad

another useless spell.  i really, really think that toad and piggy could benefit from being weapon spells only.  sub 2 worthwhile spells into the magic list, and get rid of these 2.

warp

not real useful. generally, i want to warp out, not go door to door.  making this a single-target death spell(semi-low hitrate) would be nice, and then making death multi-target would make these an excellent pair.

psych/drain

at higher levels, these ought to be able to almost fully restore their respective stat.

poison

it needs to be a mini-bio. give it some power.  nuff said.  only problem there is that it may overshadow the lv. 1 elements like bio does to the 2's.

sleep

underpowered.  it has the same problem that sleep has in ff1. it needs to last!

stop

i never, ever use this.  maybe it's just me, but between haste and slow, i'm taking quite a few more turns than anything remotely strong trying to kill me.

break/stone

here we go. make stone a single target spell.  replace either piggy or toad with "break", a new multi-target stone!

weak

another spell i pretty much never use, but can definitely see its uses.  since i never use it, i don't really know, are monsters susceptible to it at the end of the game?

doom

needs to be multitargeted to play nice with warp.

nuke

i'd like to see this as a multi-target "4th level" non-elemental spell.  lv. 3s power is 64, nuke's power is 100. reduce that down to 82, make it multi-target, and add a SMIDGE of casting time.

meteo

casting time HAS to be cut. outside of that, it seems ok.

cure

these spells seem fine.

life/2

fine.

float

it gets used a few times. not too much to say.

esuna

it.. works? i can see why it removes berserk, not that i agree.  the game seems to consider it a negative status.

haste

seems ok to me. maybe a SMIDGE more powerful. replace mini with hastega. as i was saying with toad and piggy, make it weapon-related only.  i know, i know, what if someone gets hiw with one those statuses? well remedies are cheap and so is esuna!  plus, items exist to cure those ailments in ff4.

slow

it's pretty powerful. if it's left alone and not weakened, there probably shouldn't be a slowga. if it was weakened a lil bit and multi-targeted, maybe it(slowga) could replace dispel or something?

protect/shell

pretty much worthless. they need power.

blink

another spell that's fine on its own, but is lacking a full-party version.

charm

i don't think it should be multi-targeted.  it's strong enough, as is.

peep

not very worthwhile. it needs to indicate weak+, resistances, absorbtions.

sight

worthless. replace it. multi-targeted blink?

hold

again, not worthwhile. easily replaceable.

silence

i don't think that i've EVER used it in-game. so worthless.

dispel

same here.  i'd rather be pumping myself up than worrying about knocking out statuses.

reflect

make it cost a little more and multi-target. wasting 4-5 turns is a joke.

white

make it multi-targeted and always cause hp-leak, and it's fairly decent.

well, everything is done and posted(credits, etc). i'm yet to upload the doc to gfaqs, but that's it.

477
well, the document is finished, credits and all.  i'll post the final version tomorrow.

i'll take care of the credits on the website tomorrow.  work was rough, and i'm exhausted. sorry.

478
yeah, i know about the copy/pasting.  it's been on my todo list to fix.  that and going through the board for any info from the last 3 weeks or so.

gonna get the credits done tonight. :)

479
if it'll put you at ease knowing, i'm at my desk, mouse and keyboard off to one side near my monitor; in front of me, i have my laptop, with the game and the document up and running, along with both of my thumb drives with my document backups. i'll finish that first, and then add a full credits section to the rb.  making a full page will be easier.

wasn't trying to rip anyone off, just being kinda lazy. i'll fix everything now.

all of those are taken care of with 2.0, except the ff4et stuff.
