just noticed that you asked for the reason...

for me it was tough to decide between the circlet and bard's hat.

circlet:
Strength: +2
Speed: +1
Stamina: +3
Magic: +4
Defense: +25
Magic Defense: +19

bard's hat:
Defense: +19
Magic Defense: +21
Magic Evasion: +10

eventually i just went with the circlet for the stats, as the 2 are pretty close in terms of def/mdef and the game already gives you a bunch of magic nullifying/absorbing/halving equipment that i just wasn't concerned with the magic evade.  i can just change helmets in important situations(i.e. boss fights) where it's useful.

I was thinking more towards level 1 elementals = 1/2, level 2 = null, level 3 = absorb.. but whatever works I guess.

I can do that, I'm just afraid it might be a bit too powerful, I forget how many of the level 3 learn relics you can get.
i've got 3 or 4 ice3 relics already just from the floating continent. lv 3 absorbing was my first thought, but it just seems too powerful for the relic. i know that you an't do 1/4 powered spells, but i was just following the chain down as an example. what i wrote wasn't exactly gospel.

as for exit, obviously i knew that that property didn't exist in the original game. it was one of those things that, if it's possible in some way that i don't know about, cool. if not, fine, i'll come up with something else.

like i was saying to jce, it doesn't hurt to submit all of your ideas. even if they aren't all viable, an not-viable idea may lead to a really good one in the end.

learn quake = nullify quake/earth attacks
learn flare = absorb fire
learn virus=null poison
learn infect = absorb poison
learn holy = absorb holy(i'd say null, but you have at least one relic for pretty much everyone that can already do that.)

hmmm..

there's no earring in this game, right? maybe give gforce that property since it seems to be so rare?

There's something lacking in the whole learn spell relic system. Gogo can equip all (most if you're factoring in the bugs) the learn spell relics.. but the problem is that most of them have no use after learning.

Here's an idea worth considering though..

Give each relic a property of the spell that is being learned. For instance, the level 1 elemental magic would get 1/2 damage to the elementals you are learning... X-Zone gives insta-death protection.. so on and so forth. It may break some of the existing game balance (well, it was already broke in some ways to begin with), but it would make it rather interesting to keep some relics around for good measure...

A lot of this is based off of FF7's elemental/added effects idea... it's a relatively simple expansion of it. Some relics already follow this, but that's a small minority of relics.

i 100% second this. in fact, i was kind of disappointed the first time around, because after playing with a few of the semi-later ones(i.e.slow/2, mirror ring, etc) and getting effects from them, i wondered why he hadn't just done that with all of them.

make learn fire 1/2 damage from fire
learn fire2 1/4 damamge from fire
learn fire3 nullify damage from fire
learn meteor makes you randomly cast it when you attack through"fight'(is this possible?)
learn vanish makes you vanish
learn exit, well, maybe you randomly run from battles?(ala the chicken knife from ff5)
and so on and so forth...

it wouldn't really be all that game-breaking, as only a few characters can equip these things.  :cycle:

there really isn't much to say. i plowed through atma and nerapa(and iaf, go figure).  no magic, just physical attacks.

anyway, i just got sabin back. i did keep getting killed over and over trying to teach celes ice3 that i got from a few of those monsters that appear right outside albrook.

well, got all 3 lv. ? spells from an "elemental"(?) monster on the fc in one fight!  got roughly 10 lores up to now. 

deathlike, do you recall what level your guys were at on the fc?

ok, everyone who can has learned all the possible spells so far! i have 600,000 gil, and am fighting the iaf as i type this. :)  really likin the new name, highwind!

i'm using locke, strago, and edgar.  they're at roughly lv. 43. strago has an excellent magic power of 83 and mp of 550, which is pretty bangin. :) it's just too bad that he can barely equip any armor.  all he has is the heavy robe. so far, i'm blasting through all the fights before the floating continent. 

btw, celes has rasp, but no one else does. i've gone through all the equipment trying to find ANYTHING that will teach it, but i can't. does she just learn it on her own? or does some piece of equipment do it?

aaaand iaf is dead! :) that only last like 75 seconds.  am i, like, incredibly overleveled

ah, ok. good to know about the hyper wrist property. guess i'll hang on to some, then :laugh:

anyway, stopping at the veldt to teach the 4 magic-users all the magic relics i've gottem so far while i wait for ff2usht2 beta3. the floating continent is up next!!

also gonna pick up as many lores as possible.  do relm and strago both need to be around to learn a lore, or will it be available to both if one learns it? i take it that if one learns it, the other will, too, because they're both referencing the same list?

now it cycles endlessly at the jce3000gt behemoth intro.

if i attack jce, it casts disrupt and nothing happens and his dialogue will eventually finish.  if i sit there, the dialogue keeps repeating over and over.

maybe a problem when the item is supposed to be passed off.  i never get the item and the intro keeps looping.
