wait a damned second, tools and swordtech? he's a lil more technologically inclined in this game, huh?

btw, did you have to make new sprites for cyan/yang for when he uses tools? or does the game just combine the tool sprite with the normal sprite?(no idea how this would work, but i'm graphically inclined.)
Sprites are designed in such a way that they can be used by any character.

Yeah, you fight a single gargoyle formation. By the way, I added a bit to my post above.

Probably, but that wouldn't explain the useless Prince Edward.

Bah, it's Edward, he probably ran off the second he heard there'd be loud noises.

Seriously though, it's more likely that screenshot is at Fabul than anywhere else, just consider the monsters present, those aren't in the battle now but they're encountered just before it, on Mt. Hobs. I can't explain why Edward's not there but Kain joining before the battle starts makes some amount of sense.

3) Yang was meant to be encountered in a different situation.. which is not what the current finished product happens to be. For all I know, you were meant to battle him and he meant to attack Cecil intentionally. Perhaps the demo picture with Dark Knight Cecil, Kain, Yang, Rosa, and Young Rydia may have had its origins be validated.

I had a pretty simple theory for that screenshot, Kain joined prior to the battle of Fabul, Rosa and Rydia never left the party, and from there it would carry out like normal with Kain betraying you once you got to the crystal room. Rydia could also learn level 2 elementals at that point in development.

Edit: Cecil's lines in that battle are kind of redundant, considering he says almost the same thing before the battle starts.

I may be wrong about this, but I believe the biblical Cain is also pronounced "Kyne" in Japanese.

Funny that this trailer isn't up on the official site, they've still got the Japanese trailer with subtitles.

Seems like they went out of their way to match the voices to the Japanese version, watch the Japanese trailer again, they're almost a perfect match.

Hmm, all those maps are located at the end of the list, I wonder if it just checks if the map number is above a certain value?

There's a Firefox extension that removes stupidity from YouTube comments, someone really needs to write something like that for GameFAQs.

...then again, I guess that would take some of the fun out of the place.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Where's the emoticon that should go with that?

:noooo:

This is quite possibly the stupidest I've ever seen StarCraft's AI behave. Orange thinks it can take down my cannons with Corsairs and Yellow can't find the minerals directly next to its expansion and stops building. :finger:

Yeah, but I haven't actually gone by "Dark Knight Kain" since...well, let's just say ZD still updated fairly regularly.

NSRT should be able to do everything Snestool could.

I doubt bsnes is on ZD, the site hasn't been updated in...uh, forever.

http://byuu.cinnamonpirate.com/bsnes/

You need a fairly good computer to run it but it's the closest you can get to actually playing on the console.

Are you sure you patched a clean ROM? JCE and I both have copiers and I know he played through this on his, I'm fairly sure I did on mine as well. If you want I can give it a try on bsnes real quick, I'm too lazy to hook up my SNES.

Edit: Verify your clean ROM with NSRT: http://www.romhacking.net/utils/400/

FF2us 1.0 doesn't have absorb set, so if it behaves the same way in that then the flag can't be the cause, as much sense as it makes.

FF2us 1.0 does have the absorb flag set. I just stepped through all the differences between the 1.0 and 1.1, and all but four changes are in the 18000-20000 range. I'm not sure why your version didn't have the Grudger absorbing lightning.

I just looked at it in a clean ROM and you're right, I have no idea why it wasn't set in the copy I was looking at it in before.

As for my comment about a built-in resistance, that's the way it seemed to me when I was playing through the PSX version. I guess it's possible they changed something, but I have a feeling it was just the reduced hit rate throwing me off. The monster I was testing against is BladeMan, which definitely isn't taking reduced damage in any of the other versions.

Tile Molester is the only one I can think of that was done in Java, it's a tad slow to load but the editor itself is fast enough. I hear newer versions of Java are actually getting pretty fast, so if that's what you know go for it.

Nice discovery with the Crystal, I never bothered testing dark-elemental magic against Zeromus and just assumed it would hit him. That means I can give dark elemental spells to the final party.

I really want to get back to work on that hack...
