Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (GC)

I decided to not care about my hard difficulty play, and started over on normal. I destructored that g'fooker Quadraxis, and it felt great. Final time was 7:18, as well. New personal best!

I've been working on some potential sequence break stuff, and now I'm pretty sure I can get the Screw Attack without the Spider Ball. However, I still can't get to a power bomb without the Spider Ball* so I have to make a backtrack yet. On this playthrough, I at least managed to fight Chykka without the Grapple Beam, so I'm getting better at sequence breaking. I still pretty much suck though.

*: There's a power bomb in Transit Station which I can get to, but I can't get out because I can't get the bomb space jump to work there. I've tried various methods of bouncing off the walls with the screw attack, but so far only the spider ball can get me out. There's a power bomb at the entrance to Sanctuary, but without the spider ball I cannot get there.



3:07 is now my best time. My previous best was 3:08, but a better Emperor Ing and Dark Samus fight would give me 3:07. My time at the final save point is 3:01. Collection rate is 36%, also a new personal best. This particular run also produced an interesting side-effect. See this, this, this, and this. The four images are over a megabyte combined, so they won't get embedded.

No, I did not skip the dark suit, I'm not that crazy. I did manage to do a bit more sequence breaking though. I broke the Grapple/Booster/Seekers line, which is about the extent of what I can do so far. Oh well.

It won't, and it's something I meant to mention before the season started. I'll take the blame for that, and yes, this is short notice. I'll take the blame for that, too. Nobody likes being put on the spot. I suppose I should've given this week as a leeway period, and I should've announced this on Sunday, so everyone knew with enough time to adjust. Ahh well.

Major things can happen within 2-3 days before the Sunday game

You don't need to go to bank F0, but you can if you want. There should still be some free space in C2 to do what you want. That said, your JSR is not changing banks, so you're actually going here:

You have the right idea, but the wrong byte. EA is NOP, but in 6502 and 65816 assembly. FF is SBC long absolute indexed, and can be used to indicate free space. Since this is for events, you need to use an equivalent "do nothing." Square made such an event command, lucky for you. Give FD a try.

Today the Lions did what the Lions are accustomed to, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They were leading the Jets 20-10 with about 5 minutes to go, and a combination of the defense being gassed, Sanchez marching the team down the field, and a late hit out of bounds, allowed the Jets to steal this one.

Also, @ Browns beating the Pats at home. Seriously.

If I include multiple CMP's, then I would need to include multiple LDA's and Multiple STA's as well, right?

If you're smart about it, you only need the one STA. You will never need more than one LDA, since you're loading from the same address every time anyway.

How would I go into telling the game "Look for data supposed to be in the C2 bank somewhere else in the rom"?

This is not data, this is code. You should read up on some tutorials, or just try experimenting.

Is that with pointers?

No, it's a JSR, or a JMP, or maybe even if a BRL, if you're brave.

Well, you obviously can't do that with just one CMP, so you need to insert a hook for that code to check multiple pieces of equipment.

The address you just gave is where the FWF is. Fixed-width font, and in FF6's case, 8x8. DTE is Dual-tile encoding, 2 letters for 1 byte. The dialogue primarily uses it. That's all there is to it.
