Game Modification Station / Re: Throwing an idea out there

Ok, I see 2 possibilities:
1) You get 1 spell to cast, period.
2) You get up to 7 spells to cast, but it depends on which bits are set in the relic data. Say you have "Wall on low HP" set, you would get 4 spells cast, since it's the highest of the 3 bits. If you had the Safe and Shell checked, you would get 3 spells, etc.

That would reduce the number of spells you have available. I wouldn't be able to do any sign tweaking either, since there's 255 spells to choose from.

This is for FF6, mind you. As most of us know, there's 3 bits that will give any item a spell to cast on low HP. Currently there's 3 bits, one for each of Shell, Safe, and Reflect. What I propose, is to utilize the bits a little more, and turn them into a look-up table.

Pros: This will give you 7 spells to choose from.
Cons: No item will ever cast more than 1 spell.

If I were to make this patch, I should be able to do it without taking any free space, since it seems like they wasted a lot here at C2/0A4A. So, is this worth exploring?

Statuses on healing items are inverted. This is because that's how it's stored in the ROM. So an item that only heals Mute will have all status flags on except Mute.
You could change the wording to something like:
"Recovers all status except..."

Probably the easiest way to do it, though for thoroughness you could invert all of the bits on saving instead I suppose. :omg:

Yeah, that's the current version that dies at the Opera House. Did you start with an earlier version and update later?

This is a wonderful hack. I'm really impressed with the changes! I've played up until the cave to the sealed gate, but in the first room with the disappearing/reappearing bridges it seems to be impossible to pass through. There's just no bridge to the bottom. I know this is a demo so I'm not sure if this is just as far as the hack has been developed or if there's some way to progress I'm missing.
Pretty sure we never touched that room, so the original method to get across should still work.

Is it just me or does he use basic attacks more frequently in his rage state now?
There's a 25% chance to just do a basic attack if either of the two Rage moves aren't picked.

I like the auto-offering (or is that just how playing cards work?).
That's his cards.

Some general observations:

-Couldn't solve the clock puzzle in Zozo which made me feel like a sucker for running around getting all the clues. Thanks for the cheap potions and ethers in Zozo though! I'll take those over a Chainsaw any day.
We've been meaning to add a hint that the clock puzzle cannot be solved right now. Even if the correct time is given, you cannot access the ChainSaw until later.

-The original Whelk battle was weird. I could damage his shell or his head if he wasn't hiding and it didn't seem to matter. No counterattacks or anything. Wasn't sure which part I should be focusing on and the fight lasted a while without much happening.
If focusing on the head is not yielding a good result, change your focus!

-I actually thought making me run back to Nikeah to get the parts from Kirk was cool. Maybe if you could get Mog in your party earlier you could bring him along and kill two birds with one stone by collecting his water rondo on the trip. Then Mog would actually get to see a bit more use in the WoB, which would be swell.
Added bonus, there's another method to learning the Water Rondo now.

I'll stop there and just say, great job on this! It's one of the most promising hacks I've run across. Being able to play the classics but experience new things makes nostalgic gaming a thousand times better!
Glad you enjoyed it, but I'm curious which version of the demo you have, since the current demo dies at the Opera House. Yes, there will be an update, and you will be able to get to the original intended stop point!

Game Modification Station / Re: Copied maps tile layering issues.

No secret. You just couldn't have copied everything like you said if you're getting layering issues. Triple check everything in every tab, go into the hex if you need to. You missed something.

I didn't even know RHDN had it, so I was waiting for Gavin to appear so I could ask to link it.

Game Modification Station / Re: Refresh objects command
« on: September 02, 2012, 01:12:13 PM »
Let's see if we can figure stuff out then:
Code: [Select]
Refresh objects
(gen. act. 45)

C0/9CE2: A901    LDA #$01
C0/9CE4: 8D9807  STA $0798
C0/9CE7: 4C5C9B  JMP $9B5C

Doing searches for all instances of $0798 gives only 1 with a read, C0/9A75. The code following this will execute only if $0798 is zero. Sadly, I have nothing else on this, though I was now able to do some code optimizations to PB's assembly of the bank.

Well, if you don't think it does anything, go ahead and get rid of it. You probably won't like the results, though.

You couldn't have copied everything if you're having layering issues.

I've used mine on XP and Vista, but not on 7.
