Hooray! My whiny schoolboy bitching once again saves the day!

EDIT: Oh, right. Contribution. Uh, I used the "Have all items in Fat Chocobo" cheat and Twin Stars appeared to be the only one left with spillover issues. If you wanna make 100% sure, I think they can still be grabbed from the GameShark.com website.

Noted, I'll fix that if I bother to work on this again.
Oh, you don't plan on completing this (any time soon, at least)?

...Well, I may as well get the old, original ROM with the Stripper Restoration hack rather than having an incomplete patch...

Gaming Discussion / Re: Am I a bad gamer?
« on: September 24, 2008, 08:12:28 PM »
Short answer: No

Long answer: Does it matter?

If you want a bad gamer, you can find them @ Gamefaqs.

A true bad gamer is one that does the following:

1) RTFM is not in their vocabulary.

2) Even if it's proven as a fact or junk, they believe a random rumor to be truth.

3) Common sense. Really, it's that simple.
I guess you're right. Though technically, I can't RTFM due to the fact that I pirate. Arr!

Anyway, once you're old enough to work and earn some money, spend a little on the game industry.
Oh, yeah, completely. I'm 15, and plan on getting a job next year so I can actually afford things:omg: Yay flipping greasy burgers!

It is and it isn't. The first one was literally subtitled "Final Fantasy Sidestory" in Japan, but since that it's split off into its own universe and tried to distance itself from Final Fantasy; I never really got anywhere in Sword of Mana but I hear they even replaced the moogles in that version.

No, moogles are in Sword of Mana as a status ailment thanks to Luna's Mooglemorphosis spell. They removed Chocobos though.

As for the question at hand, no, playing what you enjoy doesn't make you any less of a gamer. I seem to have lost interest in RPGs in the past few years, I can't get into anything new like I used to, but I still enjoy all the RPGs I've already played through.
Well, true, but I was in this mindset as basically, I pirate because I can't afford the MOAR MONEY OM NOM NOM, which to me is a poor excuse. Not to mention I pirate games that I actually own...

i don't have much of anything to add, but i will add that i fucking hated sword of mana while i was playing it, and greatly yearned for my ffa at the same time... such a fun game.

fuck you, sword of mana! such a waste of $30.

:edit:

that's right, i'm ass Face for the day!
I enjoy it. Although the motherfucking Aerolite quest can burn in Hell.

I use emulator a lot myself but only because it's faster. I've got my original SNES hooked up to my TV. In fact, it's a daily routine to have my brothers come over and play Super Mario Kart on it every day.
(Above) What's RTFM? Sorry to say I've never heard of it before. (It could turn out to be something I have heard before though... who knows?)

RPG's are great fun. I wouldn't say your a bad gamer for having fun playing games you enjoy. It would be like saying I'm a bad gamer because I don't like or play first person shooters or guitar hero games. They just aren't fun for me. I have no interest in playing them or getting good at those games.

If your looking to expand on a few games that could be fun and your open to suggestions, I could name a few non-RPG games. Personally strategy and turn based tactical games can be fun for me.

Having only played up to the PS1 generation of gaming, that's fine. Some of the best games come from SNES and a smaller percentage come from PS1. There aren't a whole lot of really good games in the PS2+ generations. There are some good games, but SNES had like 10 great games for every genre and mascot it seemed.

A few suggestions;

Metal Marines / SNES: You nuke enemy islands while protecting your own from enemies. Something like 20 levels where both your islands vary. Aside from using missiles you can also send metal marines (giant robots). Anti-missile and anti-MM buildings exist to impede each others destruction of each other's base building(s).

Super Mario Kart / SNES: A fantastic racing game with Mario characters. It invented the kart-racing genre and I feel like no game has been able to exceed it (not even other Mario Kart games).

Rock n Roll Racing / SNES: Recommended to be played only with two players to compete against each other. Single player is dull because the AI is horrendously simple even on the hardest difficulty. Fighting a friend for supremacy is the only way to go. :D

Final Fantasy Tactics / PS1: It's a turn based tactical version of Final Fantasy. It has FF5 (I think) classes like warrior, ninja, dragoon, black mage, white mage ect. Surprisingly deep strategy elements. Starts off a little slow (Chapter 1).

Twisted Metal 2 / PS1: Twisted Metal 1 is a little crude but can be almost as fun. Generally #2 is the best of the series (except TM:Black). It's a car-combat game. No racing. You drive around shooting missiles and such at enemy cars until everyone on that stage is destroyed. You go the next stage and repeat. The endings for each car really make it worth while trying to master everyone. Fun for both solo and single player.
(#3 is good too because it introduces more real world physics to the game. #4 changed up all the regular cars which was a little disappointing.)

Contra 3 / SNES: A side scrolling shoot'em'up. It's supposed to be hard but not for me. Kill everything, bosses at the end of each level.

that Mario RPG / SNES: I forget it's full name, something of the 7 stars is a sub-title. It's Mario in an RPG game. Pretty fun. It was made by Square-Enix so you know the mechanics are spot on. No Luigi (+ or -?)

If you try and like any of these games I could recommend a more. There are just a few I've played recently that weren't one your list.
I've played FFT, but heard some really bad things and some really good things about Super Mario RPG. I s'pose I could play it though--The last two RPGs I've played that were based off of something else (Sailor Moon: Another Story, Magic Knight Rayearth) flopped horribly.

No, you're not a bad gamer. Unless you frigging hack multiplayer games with aimbots and/or consistantly pirate easily available games(In other words, downloading like The Sims 2 or something that can be found in any wal-mart/best buy/whatever), I don't think anyone's a bad gamer.
Err... As I said earlier, I pirate Breath of Fire III, Breath of Fire IV, Chrono Cross, Dragon Quest VII, and Lufia II while I all own them, though I don't have a working PS1... Does that count?

 :edit:
Oh, I forgot to say this last bit--Thanks for the responses, everyone. I now have confidence that I'm not a bad gamer, but I could probably be better.

Gaming Discussion / Am I a bad gamer?
« on: September 23, 2008, 09:14:48 PM »
Well, firstly, I'd like to say that I've been thinking for a while, and now, as the topic title implies, I'm wondering: Am I a bad gamer? I'll make a short list. But before you pass judgment, keep in mind that I love every single game I listed almost equally (Beyond the Beyond, DQIII and BoFII included).

1. I don't use actual gaming apparatus when I play video games.
In other words, I only emulate (using a keyboard). The exceptions are that my parents have a GameBoy Advance which I occasionally play Golen Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age on (And that's because it looks awful on a computer screen without filtering. I got the two for free from a family friend, by the way), or if I feel like buying a computer controller with money I got for a birthday or for Christmas (I've gone through three of the damn things so far... I hate GGE909 Recoil pads by Gaming-Elements :bah:). As a side note, due to my family's money problems, I can't afford to buy video games.

2. I don't play anything more advanced than PS1 games.
This is due to my family's above money problem, really. I can't afford PS3, XBOX 360, Wii, PSP, or DS, or even PS2 or XBOX. Sure, one could argue that PS2 and DS emulation is improving steadily, but I doubt my hunk o' junk could play them.

3. I only have console RPGs on my computer.
Yes, it's true. I do play the occasional Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, or a random brawler game, but I mainly have RPGs. It's not that I have anything against those types of games, it's just that they're not really my forte.

4. I only have the (more or less) well-known "classic series."
What do I mean by this? Look at my list for yourself:
Breath of Fire (GBA)
Breath of Fire III (PS1)
Breath of Fire IV (PS1)
Chrono Cross (PS1)
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Dragon Quest I•II (SNES)
Dragon Quest IV (NES)
Dragon Quest V (SNES)
Dragon Quest VI (SNES)
Dragon Quest VII (PS1)
EarthBound (SNES)
EarthBound Zero (NES)
Final Fantasy I & II (GBA)
Final Fantasy III (NES)
Final Fantasy IV Advance (GBA)
Final Fantasy V Advance (GBA)
Final Fantasy VI Advance (GBA)
Final Fantasy VII (PS1)
Final Fantasy VIII (PS1)
Final Fantasy IX (PS1)
Legend of the Dragoon (PS1) <- The only non-series game I have. :isuck:
Lufia (SNES)
Lufia II (SNES)
Lufia III (GBC)
Secret of Mana (SNES)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (SNES)
Sword of Mana (GBA)
Tales of Destiny (PS1)
Tales of Eternia (PS1)
Tales of Phantasia (GBA)
Tales of Phantasia (PS1)
Tales of Phantasia (SNES)

You may notice some games in a series that are missing from this list, which brings me to my next point...

5. I only play the most-updated, prettiest versions of series games (ToP aside), even if it means waiting.
This is actually two points in one: I don't play any sidestory games (Yes, I know that "of Mana" is technically an FF sidestory series), such as Lufia: Ruins of Lore, Legend of Mana or Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (JCE's gonna kill me for this). I also don't really play any games that aren't in a series (Though I've been considering picking up Beyond the Beyond again, Legend of the Dragoon is currently the only exception to this, as I pointed out earlier). As for the second point, I won't play, say, Dragon Quest III for the GBC or NES as I know that the SNES version is almost done being translated. I also won't play the original Breath of Fire II knowing that Ryusui's 1/4 way to being done.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: DS Version Research

No, I remember this correctly--There's a forcefield if you don't have Rydia. If you go there before getting Leviathan/Ashura, you can go talk to the king and he'll tell you to :stfu: and go visit the Land of the Summons. Not sure on the DS  version. :isuck: and we have no money.

Gogo (No love for Gogo )

I'm never understood how people misunderstand Gogo.  Gogo's the one-person insta-make the party better character.
...Um? I never said I didn't like Gogo... It was meant as a joke (Saved for last = no love). I actually like Gogo a lot--Back in my NMG days, Gogo, along with Terra and Celes, would always be on my team, basically making Gogo the Magic God. I'm sure you have some really good points in that post, but I'm afraid your attempts to convince me that Gogo's a good character are for naught, as I already think Gogo's a good character.

I imagine in this case, I.S.T.'s the guy in his boxers and the creator of "FFVI Expert v2" is the dumb blonde.

...Swerving back on topic...
Personally, I think the story writers meant for you to do it like this...
Celes
Sabin (He's on the way)
Edgar
Setzer
Cyan (You follow the pigeon)
Gau (You're told of his whereabouts)
Shadow/Relm ("Hmm, I've never seen this cave here before. Let's take a look.")
Strago (In case you let Shadow die, you heartless bastard, Relm links to Strago)
Locke (The Emperor's Letter found at Owzer's)

That's about it for characters that link to one-another starting from Celes. As for characters that link to each other that aren't linked to Celes... Well, that's pretty obvious. Terra and Gogo link to no one, and Mog links to Umaro. Of course, everything stops at Shadow if you let him live like a sane man.

As for myself, I go like this:
Celes
Sabin (He's on the way)
Terra part 1 (Yay Fenrir)
Edgar
Setzer
Terra part 2 (I absolutely love Terra for unknown reasons. It's been like that since my childhood)
Mog (Yay, Molulu's Charm!)
Cyan (Yeah, from here on I go the way the developers push you)
Gau
Shadow
Relm
Strago
Locke
Umaro (Although I've only thought about it--I've never done it in practice--You get these two last so they get better stats. Umaro goes first because by now, I've gotten Mog, who links to Umaro)
Gogo (No love for Gogo )

Occasionally, I skip Terra part 1 and do both together after getting Setzer.

Has anyone here heard of the new bug? I replied to the topic with another side effect of it. I didn't explain it so well over there, so I'll try again here:
Quote from: me
I did this, and the new game appears to be using my window style of choice, number 5, but none of the colors; I changed them to a deep sky-blue color. But when I go into the menu, it returns to the default window style again... Interesting.

Okay, some retard at GameFAQs just deleted my post... Take a look for yourself; This is the deleted post:

*facepalm*
Chrono Trigger fanboys... Right up there with EarthBound fanboys in terms of ignorance. At least EB fanboys don't say "MOTHER 3 NEVER EXISTED!!!!!111oneone!!!!1111! THERE IS NO TRUE SEQUEL TO EARTHBOUND!!!!!!1111oneone1111eleven!!!!2!YeahYouGetTheMemeByNow!!!!" Hell, I can't think of a more ignorant fanbase.
I'm happy to say that, at least, Tales fanboys aren't like this... At least, not in the circles I've seen (Well, we have our "SFC Tales of Phantasia is the best incarnation of ToP!!!" people, but that's about it...)
"What the hell is this stupid kid bitching about now? It looks like it was deleted for a good reason to me..."
But look what it was deleted for...

Some additional notes on the Disruptive rule:

Adding in (caps) or substituting a couple of lower-case letters in an ALL CAPS topic title does not exempt it from the rule. Any topic title designed to draw attention in this manner is a violation of the Disruptive rule.
...So yes. My post was deleted for my little "YeahYouGetTheMemeByNow!!!!". I'd accept this if it were deleted for trolling or flaming.

So I'm contesting this moderation for being deleted under the wrong context:
Quote from: me
...I'd agree that this violated the ToU, but there's just one little thing: According to the excerpt on this page, this post was deleted for me having no spaces between a relatively small part of the message, saying "Yeah you get the meme by now". I'd fully agree this violated ToU if the reason for this post's deletion was for "Flaming" or "Trolling".

So, please, enlighten me. Was this deleted just for my space-less "Yeah you get the meme by now"? If so, this was moderated for the wrong reason, and should probably be the one of the two above.
...Why do I even go here anymore? :isuck:

I have to try this out.

I don't know if he can equip it in the GBA version of the game. But he can still equip it in the SNES and PSX versions of the game. I think that in the GBA version of the game, Gau can't equip the Merit Award anymore. But does the Equip Any Weapon bug work in the GBA version? And even if it doesn't, is there any other way to have Gau equip the Kazekiri in the GBA version? I suppose you could always use codes or hacking or something like that.
 It's official: I have lost all faith in humanity.
Oh, and look, even Vegh points it out to him that the damn glitch doesn't work anymore.

163
That depends. I haven't played any of the Persona games, so I can't comment on it.

The differences between Valkyrie Profile's 1 & 2 are actually quite vast (in terms of story). The battle system is very good in 2. Battles in 1 can take forever, because if you build up long chains of attacks, the Soul Crushes can take forever to view, while they are skippable in 2. Having played more of 2, I will say you will probably enjoy it. It does start kind of slow, but it's pretty good overall.
Sounds pretty good.

As for Xenosaga, they are all slow, mainly because of the immense amount of story you have to see. Luckily all cut-scenes are skippable, but the games still take forever to get through. Do not start with II if that's the first one you can get your hands on. It is by far the worst of the three. III greatly makes up for II, but all can be unbearable if you aren't prepared for a long sit-down. On the up-side, the series ties into Xenogears quite well, so if you have played that then you will be able to piece together quite a few things.
Err...Xenogears isn't part of Xenosaga? Uh...Maybe I should've just said "Xeno"...
Well, I'm not too hot on the whole "interactive movie" thing...plus, doesn't Xeno have 80-minute (One hour and 20 minutes!?) long cutscenes?

I'd add one more series to your list, and that's Suikoden.
And that's the game I was missing from the list. As I posted, I thought, "Wait a minute...am I missing something?". So yes, I'd like to add "Suikoden (My friend Shauna)" to the list.

I haven't been able to get my hands on I or II, but I do have III, IV, and V. V is an absolute gem. III was the first game I played, and unfortunately it is viewed by many as the worst of the series. I thoroughly enjoyed it though, except for the many hours that can be spent going back and forth. IV was a weird adjustment for me, but it has many superior things compared to III (like flow). Many consider II to be the best of the series, but I can't speak to that.
Again, I can hear no real giant negatives.

Hope that helps.
It did!

Soul Blazer is okay, but with your interests in games, you may want to try Terranigma instead (it's the third in the Soul Blazer series, with Illusion of Gaia being second.) Terranigma is awesome, one of my favorite and most underrated SNES games out there. It plays kind of like Secret of Mana, and has an awesome soundtrack as well.
But I'd want to play all the Soul Blazer games, not just T e r r a n i g m a . There's a reason why I only included the first game in a "series" topic

As for Persona, I've only just gotten into it myself when I bought Persona 3: FES. I haven't played enough of it to give an opinion though, but I heard really good things, especially as you progress in the story.
So, Persona would be one to look into, then.

Soul Blazer is too good not to play.  You should play that series in the correct order.  Star Ocean 1 and 2 are awsome.
Really? :hmm: Oh, let me guess--It's one of those small-fanbase games, right?

So is Treasure Hunter G and 7th Saga.
I thought Treasure Hunter G has yet to be translated? Are those games connected at all?

And speaking of the word Saga...you really need to play all ofthe Romancing SaGa and SaGa Frontier games.
I tried to play SaGa, but it's been years since we've had a working PS2 (As of this post, the most advanced working thing in our house is a GBA ), and all the good non-PS2-and-above-games are either disguised as FF games or are untranslated. But if SaGa Frontier's for PS1, which it should be given that ad at the back of that old game manual I had, then we're talking.

Ooh, hey, while we're on the subject of my most modern gaming consoles, wanna hear some real irony? Our 17-year-old Super Nintendo and most of its carts' batteries outlived our 9-year-old PlayStation!!!

EDIT: Bwahahaha, what'd I tell ya!
I had just gotten done with downloading SaGa Frontier 2 and my computer told me I was running low on virtual memory!
Well, so much for that idea. Guess this topic was pointless. I wish the memory-stick-whatever-thing that got blown out in my computer was fixed...or I get a had computer, whichever. Getting a new computer seems more likely to happen, though (as soon as I get a job and save up money for it), seeing as how my father has the habit of saying he'll do something for me and never bringing the subject up again, thinking I've forg0tten.

164
Okay, so ever since I discovered Tales of Phantasia (Once again, thanks DKK), I've had the weirdest fetish for getting into game series that I've always heard about, but never played. For example, recently, I've decided to give Earthbound a try (Thanks to chrono-crisis.com's Halloween special web-comic). And even more recently, I gave Star Ocean a go (Courtesy of my bad habit of looking through old topics. This time, I was at Phantasian Productions' forum looking at a Tales of Eternia "undub" topic, and a Star Ocean 2 "undub" was mentioned).

Now, a few more series that I've always heard of but never tried are Suikoden (My friend Shauna and GameFAQs message boards), Persona (RHDN), Valkyrie Profile (This very forum), Xeno(Various places), and the Soul Blazer series (Fantasyanime.com). Now I ask, thou with knowledge, this question--I like Breath of Fire, Chrono, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Lufia, Mana, Star Ocean, Tales,Wild ARMs, and Zelda. Would I like any of these games?

I'd like to give them all a chance, but at the same time, I'm running out of space on my computer to hold all my crap.
