Wow, a news post? Really? Yep, really, and it comes with news even!

Poxnor, of SDA fame, is organizing a Final Fantasy-themed charity marathon, aptly titled Crystals For Life. At the time of this post, the website that will be showing this marathon will re-direct you to the planning thread. If you're lazy, the charity we're raising money for is the Canadian division of Juvenile Diabetes Research. Sounds awesome, right?

Sadly, I'm not 100% certain I have the funds to make the trip to Edmonton to attend. That's where you come in, and I direct your attention to the nav bar on the left. If you're viewing this post from the forum, you'll have to go to the front page to see it. Any donation is accepted, and any donation you make will go towards torturing me by forcing me to play the games I own on my stream, and if you really feel evil, you can do any of the following:

5 dollars gets a game played for an undetermined amount of time (at least an hour, depending on the game maybe longer).
10 dollars gets a special game challenge (Super Metroid RBO, for example, SM low% is excluded from this; see below).
25 dollars gets an FF1 playthrough with the party of your choice.
Other donation challenges gladly accepted!

Game Modification Station / Throwing an idea out there

This is for FF6, mind you. As most of us know, there's 3 bits that will give any item a spell to cast on low HP. Currently there's 3 bits, one for each of Shell, Safe, and Reflect. What I propose, is to utilize the bits a little more, and turn them into a look-up table.

Pros: This will give you 7 spells to choose from.
Cons: No item will ever cast more than 1 spell.

If I were to make this patch, I should be able to do it without taking any free space, since it seems like they wasted a lot here at C2/0A4A. So, is this worth exploring?

General Discussion / Japan Relief Done Quick

This is super short notice, but a marathon is upon us! I recommend everyone go watch, else I'll have to sick Banon on you, and that will not be a pleasant thing.

For those not aware of SDA, they've managed to raise over $10,000 last year, and just over $53,000 this year (Classic and Awesome Games Done Quick, respectively). This marathon is to get some relief to Japan, where it is really needed right now.

So yeah, watch and donate, if possible.

Starting immediately, I'm not going to be around much, due to a radical change with RL up here. This came on rather suddenly, but suffice it to say it's major. I don't know if or when I shall return, but if I don't, just don't wreck the place.

Slick News / Pandora's Box sees the light of day once again

It's been a while since we've had any public discussion about this one, but now is not the time for talk. It's time for action. That's right, THE FF6 Hack gets a public demo, and one that is long overdue. What does this mean?

• We're still working on it yet, and we still have a long way to go before it's finished.
• You guys get to rip us once again for what we do and do not have available for play.

Some of the changes you may (or may not) find during this demo:

• A new dungeon!
• 118 bugs fixed, all from the original FF6 game. A special thanks to the many patch authors who released the fixes they did.
• Far too many core changes to improve the game. Having said that, make sure you take a peek in the configuration screen.
• Restoration of lost and removed content, which is mostly contained in dialogue.
• Item changes-- some old, some new, some gone, so look around!
• Several event tweaks, a couple overhauls, and lots of additions. Yes, you will get to experience the Auction House, the Magitek Research Facility, and one banquet in particular.

Going into further detail would be long, boring, and tl;dr. In the end, after four years of work to this date, we think many will be pleased. However, since this is the internet, and for some it's real life, we know that not everyone will be happy with some changes.

On behalf of the whole team, we thank everyone for their patience, their suggestions, and their feedback with this hack.

But enough talk, have at it! Make sure you read the readme, because nobody can help you if you don't.

1: The patch does work.
2: After some investigation, tests reveal it conflicts with assassin's Brushless Sketch fix. If you used his patch before or after my patch, Very Bad Things will happen.
3: angelo, the next time you tweak one of my patches again without coming to me first will be a cold day in hell for you.

I need to look into other patches that might be tweaking the code my patch is tweaking, and pump an update out.

Yup. He died in a Florida hospital, and he was 84. Honestly, I thought he was a lot older than that. In any event, we lost a great one.

Quite simply, this is something that Square has been sort of inconsistent with, though for the most part Holy has been a white spell. Should tradition be restored, and this moved to the white list, or should it remain with its evil brethren? You, the public, shall decide!
